چکیده

Responses of Surface Arteries and Blood Flow of Ischemic and Nonischemic Cerebral Cortex to Aminophylline, Ergotamine Tartrate, and Acetazolamide • In cats in which one middle cerebral artery was occluded, cortical blood flow (CBF) was measured and the superficial cortical microvasculature was observed bilaterally before and after the intravenous injection of a vasoactive drug. Aminophylline produced decreased CBF in the nonischemic cerebral hemispheres of five of seven animals and arterial constriction in three. Ergotamine tartrate produced arterial constriction in the nonischemic hemispheres of four animals and decreased CBF in three. Neither drug consistently produced increased CBF in ischemic cerebral tissue. Acetazolamide caused vasodilatation in the nonischemic hemispheres of seven animals and increased CBF in five. Increased CBF was not due entirely to changes of Pa<x)2. CBF also increased in ischemic hemispheres of four of the seven animals given acetazolamide. ADDITIONAL

Effects of inhalation of oxygen on blood flow and microvasculature of ischemic and nonischemic cerebral cortex.

Effects of Inhalation of Oxygen on Blood Flow and Microvasculature of Ischemic and Nonischemic Cerebral Cortex • The right middle cerebral artery was occluded in cats, and P a ^ was increased by increasing the amount of oxygen inhaled by the animals at atmospheric pressure. Cortical blood flow (CBF) was measured with Krypton-85, and observations and photographs of the superficial cortical micro...

The effect of ergotamine and dihydroergotamine on cerebral blood flow in man.

The effects of ergotamine and dihydroergotamine on cerebral blood flow was investigated 4 hours after i.v. injection as these drugs might be of importance for migraine treatment. Eight normal male volunteers (not suffering from migraine) received 0.5 mg ergotamine and 1 mg dihydroergotamine i.v. Cerebral blood flow was measured by the xenon-133 inhalation method and single-photon-emission compu...

Inhibition of nitric oxide synthase activity improves focal cerebral damage induced by cerebral ischemia/reperfusion in normotensive rats

Introduction: Nitric oxide seems to play a dual role in ischemia/reperfusion injury. Few studies have investigated whether it exacerbates or improves brain edema. In the present study, we inhibited the activity of nitric oxide synthase by L-NAME and evaluated the cerebral infarct volume, tissue swelling and brain edema, alongside the measurement of blood flow of the ischemic region. Methods...

Ergotamine and cerebral blood flow.

We measured the cerebral blood flow (CBF) of 16 patients by the xenon-133 intracarotid method before and after the intramuscular injection of ergotamine tartrate. The regional and hemispheric CBF was unaltered, even in 3 migraneurs in who ergotamine relieved the headache. Ergotamine tartrate in therapeutic doses has no effect on the cerebral circulation.

Surgically induced angiogenesis to compensate for hemodynamic cerebral ischemia.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The ischemic brain may stimulate angiogenesis to compensate for impaired circulation. We examined the conditions promoting such angiogenesis to provide the basis for surgical treatment. METHODS The degree of cerebral hemodynamic stress was studied in patients with moyamoya disease using the stable xenon-enhanced computed tomographic acetazolamide tolerance test and posi...
